Their story

More than a name and a date.

Peter Whitaker was born in Beeston, Leeds in 1954 and carried the city with him throughout his life. He was proud of where he came from, proud of his family, and proud to support Leeds United through every high, low, promotion hope, hard season and unforgettable afternoon at Elland Road.

Football was more than a game to Peter. Leeds United was part of his routine, his conversations, his weekends and his memories. He would talk about the players, the atmosphere, the old matches, the big nights, and the moments that stayed with him for life. He loved the noise of Elland Road, the passion of the supporters, and the feeling that Leeds was not just a club, but a way of life.

Peter had a way of making matchdays feel important. Whether it was a family gathering around the television, a trip to the ground, or a phone call straight after the final whistle, he made everyone feel involved. He celebrated every goal with pride, questioned every decision with conviction, and never lost faith in the team he loved.

Away from football, Peter was known for his warmth, humour and loyalty. He was the kind of man people could rely on. He had time for others, always had a story ready, and could make people laugh with a dry comment, a knowing look, or one of his classic matchday opinions. His family meant everything to him, and he built a life full of love, memories and laughter.

To those who knew him, Peter was more than a Leeds fan. He was a husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbour. His love for Leeds United was just one part of a life filled with pride, kindness and character.

“Marching on together.”
